Scout Assistance Fund

Assistance Forms

The leadership of the Cherokee Area Council believes that Scouting should be available to all youth, regardless of their family’s ability to pay. The Scout Assistance Fund is made possible by the gifts/proceeds received from:
  • Our Friends of Scouting givers
  • United Way allocations and grants
  • Designations by United Way and CFC contributors
  • Product Sale and Camp Card fundraisers
  • Foundation grants
The Scout Assistance Fund has been created for families to receive financial assistance for a variety of expenses, including:
  • Camps & Activites (Council or District sponsored)
  • Uniforms and Handbooks
  • Leadership Training
  • BSA National Registration fees
A team of volunteers has set Assistance Request Guidelines for the review of submitted applications. Some questions that the committee takes into consideration include:
  • A Scout is Thrifty – is the youth and family trying to earn part or all of the funds needed through unit fund raisers, including the Moonpie sale?
  • Is the unit providing opportunities for its Scouts to help earn funds to help pay their way?
  • Is a parent or parents willing to provide their time and is involved as a leader or helper with the unit?
  • Are multiple youth and/or adults from the same family involved in Scouting?

Most requests will be considered at a maximum of 50% of assistance provided for the item/event cost to encourage Scouts to help pay for part of their own experience and to be able to assist a larger number of Scouts and their family.

The Application is due a minimum of 90 days prior to the event or camp. Forms may be submitted by mail or fax.
